SRINAGAR

Keeping the old practice of blocking internet services in Kashmir on the eve of India’s Republic Day intact, the authorities Tuesday once again jammed the mobile networks.

This practice has been a norm after the summer uprisings of 2008,2009 and 2010 in which scores of young boys were killed after valley witnessed sporadic protests over Amarnath land row followed by brutal rape of two Shopian women and the killings of young boys in 2010.

The social networking sites especially Facebook played a key role in the dissemination of information in the agitations—making authorities to jam the services, especially on January 26 and August 15.

The January 26 function ended in Srinagar where Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr Asgar Samoon, took salute on the parade.

NC’s Omar Abdullah and PDP’s Mehbooba Mufti attended the function besides others.

Authorities resumed the mobile internet services just after the function ended in which scores of forces contingents, NCC cadets, school children participated.
