Mobile, internet suspended in Kashmir

Mobile internet of all cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) remained suspended on Friday from Thursday evening on eve of January 26.

Protest call after Friday prayers was given by all the separatist parties and groups including Hurriyat (G), Hurriyat (M), Hurriyat (JK) and JKLF by calling the Indian Republic Day as “A Black Day”.

Though it’s a normal practice in Kashmir to suspend the internet services on Republic Day and Independence Day, this is the first time that these services were withdrawn a day earlier.

The mobile service has also been snapped from this morning in the Valley, The main function was being organised at S K cricket stadium under unprecedented security arrangements.

The mobile internet of all companies has been suspended from last evening to prevent the spread of any rumours in the Valley ,official sources told Kashmir Life.

However, broadband and fixed internet was working though with a very low speed.

Traffic police has issued an advisory for movement of vehicles between the city centre and south Kashmir and no vehicle will be permitted to move along the Ram Munshi Bagh-TRC stretch of the road during the rehearsal and Republic Day function.
