These drills follow India’s Operation Sindoor, launched on the night of May 6-7, targeting terrorists in Pakistan. In response to Pakistan’s attacks on Indian military bases and cities, India struck at least eight Pakistani air bases and other military installations, including air defence units and radar sites. Following these strikes, a ceasefire was announced on May 10.

According to media reports, the security drills will focus on border districts of states neighbouring Pakistan. Earlier, on May 7, similar drills were held in 244 districts of bordering states and union territories.

The purpose of the drills is to activate air raid warning sirens, train civilians and students in civil defence measures, test blackout procedures, ensure early camouflaging of critical infrastructure, and update and rehearse evacuation plans.
