Modernized Tourist Post Office Dedicated To Public At Gulmarg

The modernized tourist post office at Gulmarg was dedicated to the public on Gulmarg Post Office festival. This was the second post office under modernization project this year which followed Qazigund Project Arrow Post Office dedicated to the public last week.

The post master general, J&K circle John Samuel said, “The modernization of Gulmarg Post Office is an initiative to develop it as a tourist friendly Post Office with all latest facilities.” He said this was actually a Tourist Post Office which has been tailor made to fit the needs of tourists having Post Shop facilities containing packaging material, dry fruits and Saffron for sale. He further said that the Post Office will function from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will provide all facilities like Registered Post, Speed Post, Savings Bank, Insurance facilities.

In the function, held at Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering, Gulmarg, on Saturday, Samuel said that the CPMG informed that Gulmarg Post Office has been shifted to a new building shall also sell Special Covers released by Department of Posts from time to time. Besides Special Covers, the tourists will find picture Post Cards quite attractive.

As per a statement Samuel also said, “As a special feature the Post Office will provide ‘My Stamp’ facilities which are a personalized stamp and can be preserved as souvenirs or used as postage adding that Gulmarg is only the second Post Office in the valley to provide My Stamp services after Srinagar GPO.”

As part of the Post Office Festival, One Special Cover and Five Picture Post Cards were also released on Gulmarg. The release of Special Cover and Post Cards is an attempt to make the whole world aware about the beauty of Gulmarg by means of Philately. These Special Covers are collected by Philatelists worldwide.

Later, a Letter Writing Competition on the theme ‘How to make my Office Self Sufficient’ was also held as a part of Post Office Festival. The participants included Grameen Dak Sewaks of the Department. Later, the winners of this competition were awarded.
