Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was detained on Saturday after he defied house arrest and attempted to march towards Lal Chowk to protest the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the state.

Mirwaiz detained by police outside his Nigeen residence.

The Hurriyat spokesman in a statement said that a police contingent deployed outside his Nigeen residence detained the Mirwaiz after he came out. He was later lodged at police station Nigeen.

Joint Resistance Leadership of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Yasin Malik have called for a march to Lal Chowk today to protest the Modi’s visit.
