SRINAGAR: India fast bowler Mohammed Shami has announced his retirement from Test cricket, bringing an end to his career in the longest format of the game.

Shami announced his decision on Friday through a statement, saying he was leaving behind the Test jersey with countless memories and expressing gratitude to his teammates, coaches, family, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and millions of Indian supporters.
“I’m leaving behind the white jersey, but never the memories tied to it,” Shami said.
Reflecting on his journey, the fast bowler said representing India in Test cricket had been a special part of his life, with every wicket, struggle, injury and comeback teaching him valuable lessons.
“Test cricket has been more than just a format for me; it has been an incredibly special part of my life. Today, with a heavy heart and countless beautiful memories, I am deciding to retire from Test cricket,” he said.
Shami also thanked the BCCI and CAB for believing in his talent and providing him with opportunities to develop his career.
“Even though my last Test ball on the field may have been bowled, the pride of playing for India will always live on in my heart,” he added.
Shami last represented India in Test cricket during the World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval.
His international career has been disrupted by injuries, particularly after he sustained an injury during the 2023 ODI World Cup. His fitness remained a major concern during subsequent attempts to return to the Indian team.
