SRINAGAR: Moosa Raza, the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir of the 1990s is no more. Former Election Commissioner Dr MY Qureshi announced on Twitter.

“Extremely sad to know about passing away in Chennai of Mr Moosa Raza, retd IAS 1960, Gujarat cadre,” Qureshi wrote on Twitter. “He was a legend in his time. We were told about his exemplary work at the IAS Academy. May his soul rest in peace.”

Raza was not well for some time, but the details are not known.

Reports said Raza IAS (retd) breathed his last at Chennai today morning. He was ailing for some time. An IAS officer of the Gujrat cadre, he was an author, poet, institution builder, orator, educationist, and above all, a good human being. He contributed immensely in the making of the IICC building. Raza was Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir at a time when Kashmir was in transition and militancy was at its peak.
