Addressing a gathering at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Itoo said “Today, we are not only here to celebrate the university’s convocation but also to recognise its remarkable development, which has established it as a centre of excellence in India.”

She said that under the leadership of former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, SMVDU has grown significantly since its inauguration, with the aim of revitalising the higher education sector, which had been impacted by past turmoil.

“The establishment of this university, along with others like IUST and BGSBU, has expanded higher education opportunities for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir while fostering a culture of innovation and research,” she said.

Itoo also commended the university for securing the 31st position in the architecture category in the 2024 NIRF rankings.

The education minister reiterated that the implementation of NEP-2020 continues to open new avenues for innovation in universities. (KNO)
