A motorcyclist died when he was hit by an unknown vehicle in Bandipora, a police statement said on Tuesday.

An unknown vehicle hit a motorcycle bearing registration number JK15-2050 at Manasbal near Asham Crossing, in Sumbal resulting in injuries to the motorcyclist Mehraj-ud-Din Wagay son of Ghulam Rasool resident of Banyri, Sumbal.

The injured was shifted to SMHS Hospital, Srinagar for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, a labourer Bashir Ahmad Soial son of Ahmad Soial resident of Chakhadway Banihal got injured while loading stones at a stone quarry at Zantrag, Khrew in Pampore. He was shifted to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The statement said that Bandipora police recovered a female body that was found floating in river Jehlum by some locals of the area.

The deceased was later identified as Neelofar wife of Mohammad Yousuf Gada resident of Chattabal, Srinagar, who was missing since June 23, 2014.

The body was handed over to her next of kin for last rites after completion of all medico-legal formalities.
