SRINAGAR: Kashmir lost a well-respected mountaineer whose contributions are said to be immense in diverse fields of sports and climbing. Mohammad Yousuf Reshi alias Mandoo passed away at his Hyderpora Bypass residence after a protracted illness. He was around 70 years of age.

People who have known Mohammad Yousuf closely said he was basically a physical education teacher at the Islamia College Srinagar. He later shifted to the University of Kashmir as a swimming coach. While teaching, he was guiding by example his pupils to expeditions within Kashmir. He has participated in various cross Himalayan expeditions and was engaged in a series of activities. A master rafter, he was skiing for most of his life. He was a senior executive of the Winter Games Association.

Off late, Mohammad Yousuf had shifted out of his Dalgate locality and was living near the Hydrepora Bypass. He was suffering from a life-threatening disease for the last five years and finally breathed his last today morning. He was laid to rest at their ancestral graveyard in Dalgate.

People associated with the mountaineering said his death is a huge loss, especially after the demise of Mohammad Ashraf, the former Director-General Tourism. Yousuf would occasionally write about his areas of activity in newspapers.
