SRINAGAR: Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid on Saturday criticised the Omar Abdullah-led government in Parliament, alleging it has failed to address key public concerns and describing the administration in Jammu and Kashmir as “under trial”.
He raised concerns over the functioning of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), citing administrative neglect and mismanagement. Rashid said the university is facing a serious crisis, with nearly 70 per cent of posts vacant and key officials removed, disrupting its operations.
He also alleged that funding to the institution has been significantly reduced, putting the future of students at risk.
The MP further criticised the government’s handling of public issues, including shortages of essential commodities such as ration and cooking gas, and said recent statements on fuel supply had increased public anxiety.
Rashid urged the Union Government to order an inquiry into BGSBU’s functioning and set up a committee to examine the situation. He also reiterated the demand for allowing student unions in universities across Jammu and Kashmir to ensure accountability and democratic participation.
