Jama’at-e-Islami (JeI) Jammu and Kashmir, state’s largest socio-politico-religo organization on Monday strongly condemned the attempts of Government of India aimed at “promoting” the RSS agenda of eliminating the religious identity of Indian Muslims by implementing Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

In a statement issued this afternoon, Jama’at said that it has happened for the “first” time in the history of India that any Union Government has “taken an open stand” against the Muslim Personal Law (MPL) and showed ‘determination’ to implement UCC.

“Government of India is aggressively working to realize the RSS agenda of creating India into a Hindu Rashtra and for that religious identity of Indian Muslims is being targeted,” Jama’at observed.

“Muslims of India, like Muslims living anywhere in the world, cannot tolerate any interference in their religious affairs,” the statement said, adding, “there is no scope for any interference in laws formulated in accordance with the injunctions of the holy Quran and sacrosanct traditions of Prophet Mohammad (SAW).”

Muslim Personal Law is not only the legal protection afforded to 20 crore Muslims living across India, “it also reflects the aspirations of Indian Muslims to live and conduct their personal affairs in accordance with their religion while living in India”, the statement said.

“However, it is a part of larger conspiracy to target Indian Muslims as the present dispensation at New Delhi has made it a point to appear anti-Muslim in its outlook to appease advocates of majoritarian Hindu communalism in India,” Jama’at added.

“Indian Muslims are living in a constant state of fear for being always targeted, sometimes in the name of cow protection by vigilante mobs of Sangh Parivar, sometimes in the name of beef ban and sometimes in the name of abrogation of Muslim Personal Law and implementation of Uniform Civil Code,” Jama’at said.

The statement said that Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir condemns this communal approach of Government of India which seeks to “eliminate” any trace of Muslim identity in India.
