Er Rashid being detained by Police on way to Uri

Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP) president and MLA Langate Er Rashid was Friday detained by police on his way to Gingal Uri where he was to meet the protesting employees of NHPC and express solidarity with the local population who were beaten to pulp by CRPF and CISF, an AIP statement said this evening.

“As soon as Rashid reached Patan, a heavy contingent stopped his vehicle and he was not allowed to proceed further,” the statement said.

While condemning the act said, “the state government has given NHPC a free hand to curb the rights of employees and loot the resources of the state and NHPC is acting like East India Company.” “The atrocities of CRPF and other security agencies are highly condemnable and even women were not spared who were protesting for very genuine issues. Er Rashid as a public representative was to visit the area to offer his solidarity with the employees and the local population but the way he was detained at Patan has exposed the state government and this thing is proved beyond doubt that Mufti regime acts like an extension wing of Home Ministry of India which is keen bent to curb the rights of Kashmiris at all levels.”
