Former chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Sunday asserted that his party would vociferously take up the issue of delay in getting due share of the State from the Ranjit Sagar Dam. He said that PDP would also take up the issue of delay in completion of Shahpur Kandi Project with Government of India and concerned quarters.

Addressing a public meeting at Mahanpur area of Basholi assembly segment, Sayeed expressed his concern over delay in proper implementation of Inter-State bilateral agreement especially regarding delay in construction of Shahpur Kandi Project downstream of Ranjit Sagar Dam. He said, “farmers of Kathua region are suffering due losses due to delay in non implementation of bilateral agreement with Punjab government over Ranjit Sagar Dam project.” He emphasized on the need to vigorously taking up with issue with concerned quarters.

“PDP will effectively take up this issue”, he assured and added that implementation of this agreement would change socio-economic conditions of the residents of Kathua district.

While demanding due share of the State from Ranjit Sagar Dam, Mufti said that affected families, whose land was submerged in the dam project, must to properly rehabilitated. He said that not only adequate compensation should be given to the displaced families, but all such families should be rehabilitated. He said that local people have first right on the power being generated from this project.

Sayeed said that formation of PDP was a turning point in the history of Jammu and Kashmir and this party has scripted a new chapter in the political history of the State.

“Aim of PDP is not just to attain power but to establish a new system to justice, transparency and equality in the State”, he said and added that PDP has a vision to address all problems of the people be it employment or development of underdeveloped areas.
