The Mughal road was thrown open on Saturday. Only Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) have allowed to ply on the historic road.

The road remained closed for over three months.

The official authorities had tried to reopen the road which connects Pir Panjal region with Kashmir valley in March but due to late set of winter coupled with strong western disturbances resulting in snowfall with heavy rains forced its closure.

“Now the opening of road has cut down the distance, transportation cost and improved accessibility,” Deputy Commissioner Shopian G M Dar was quoted as having said. The LMVs were allowed to ply via Bulfiaz road.

The Mughal road was hit by massive slides at multiple places this winter and the workers on ground faced tough time in making the road through.
