SRINAGAR: The 434-km Srinagar-Leh highway was closed for vehicular movement on Monday due to fresh snowfall at Zojila Pass.

An official told the news agency KNO that on Sunday evening, the higher reaches of Kashmir including Sonamarg received fresh snowfall.

He said that due to the fresh snowfall at Sonamarg, Mani Marg, Drass and Zojila, the authorities have suspended traffic movement on the highway as a precautionary measure.

As per local reports, some vehicles are stranded in Sonamarg area after the road was closed.

Meanwhile, Traffic was suspended on the historic Mughal Road following the continuous snowfall along the road.

Traffic Police Department J&K in a tweet said, “Mughal road is closed due to snowing. Snowing at Jawahar Tunnel and rain started on Jammu-Srinagar NHW but through so far. Also snowing on Srinagar Leh road.”

An official said that the Bandipora-Gurez road has also been closed for traffic due to snowfall at Razdan Pass.

He said that the traffic was suspended as a precautionary measure as the snowfall had left the road unsafe for travelling.
