SRINAGAR: The Mughal Road, connecting Shopian with Rajouri-Poonch districts, has been closed until further notice.
Officials said that the decision to close the thoroughfare was taken by the Deputy Commissioner of Poonch, Vikas Kundal (IAS), due to deteriorating road conditions caused by frost and sub-zero temperatures, making it unsafe for vehicular movement.
“Dy-Superintendent of Police Traffic Rajouri/Poonch (Hars) Rajouri, via letter No: DY-SP/TRF/MISC/25/39-41 dated 15-01-2025, has reported that the condition of the Mughal Road has worsened due to frost and sub-zero temperatures, rendering it unsafe for vehicular movement,” reads the order.
In light of the prevailing weather conditions and as a precautionary measure to prevent accidents or untoward incidents, the road closure is deemed necessary, the order reads.
“Now, therefore, in the interest of public safety, it is hereby ordered that the Mughal Road shall remain closed from Km 19 (Dogran) to Km 43 (Peer Ki Gali) for all vehicular traffic with immediate effect, until further notice.” (GNS)
