Police on Sunday issued following statement regarding Mujgund encounter saying that a search operation was launched yesterday jointly by Police, CRPF and army based on a credible input about the presence of militants at Mujgund area on Bandipora road.

“During the search operation, the search party was fired upon by the hiding militants. The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight. In the initial exchange of fire one army jawan sustained injuries and was shifted to hospital for medical treatment,” the spokesman said.

“In the ensuing encounter, three militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. Identities and affiliations of the killed militants are being ascertained,” said police spokesman in a statement.

“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter,” he said.

“Citizens are requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any,” a police spokesman in a statement said.
