SRINAGAR: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, has assured robust security measures for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, emphasising the safety of attendees during the parade and associated events.
Speaking to the media, IGP Kashmir said, “Preparations for the 26th of January are in full swing. There will be multi-tiered security arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of Republic Day celebrations.”
The IGP also confirmed the conclusion of an encounter between security forces and militants in the Gujjarpati, Zaloora area of north Kashmir’s Sopore.
“The security forces acted on a tip-off about suspicious movement in the area, leading to a cordon and search operation. When the search party reached the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight,” the IGP said.
During the operation, security forces reportedly dismantled a hideout used by the militants.
The IGP reiterated the commitment to maintaining security across the Kashmir region during the Republic Day celebrations. (KINS)
