Reports said pro-freedom and pro-Islam slogans were raised during the funeral of both slain militants, Zeenat-ul-Islam of Sugan and Shakeel Ahmad Dar of Chilli Pora at their native villages.

They said that five rounds of funeral prayers were held for Zeenat so far and four rounds of funeral prayers were also held for Shakeel Ahmad Dar to accommodate a huge rush of mourners who reached from nearby and far-off areas.

An eyewitness said that scores of men and women wept bitterly as the bodies were being carried for the funeral prayers. Soon after the funeral prayers, a group of militants appeared in the crowd and offered a gun salute.

He said that strict restrictions have been put in place in most areas of the district by deploying extra para-military troopers to foil protests.

Earlier at least eleven persons were injured after government forces opened fire at mourners gathered for funeral prayers of Al Badr commander Zeenat ul Islam at Sugan.

Meanwhile, the complete shutdown is being observed in south Kashmir parts to mourn the militant killings.
