SRINAGAR: Police on Friday conducted enforcement operations in Pulwama and Shopian districts of south Kashmir, seizing several vehicles involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.
In Pulwama, a tipper bearing registration number JK13A-5547 was intercepted at Hawal Crossing during naka checking while transporting illegally extracted sand. The vehicle was seized, and FIR No. 71/2026 was registered at Police Station Rajpora.
In a separate operation at Newa Market, two dumpers (JK04G-0557 and JK01AH-1068) were intercepted by Police Post Newa. Both were found carrying illegally extracted clay, and the drivers failed to produce valid documents. The vehicles were seized, and a case was registered at Police Station Pulwama.
During night operations, another dumper (JK05M-1165) and a tipper (JK22-3767) were intercepted and found involved in illegal mining. Both vehicles were seized, and FIR No. 51/2026 was registered at Police Station Litter.
In Shopian district, police seized two dumpers and two tippers involved in unauthorised mineral extraction from the Hef Rambiara area near Ahchan Bridge. The action was taken by a team from Police Post Turkwangam during routine patrolling. FIR No. 66/2026 was registered at Police Station Zainapora under relevant sections of law.
Police said further investigation is underway and urged the public to share information related to illegal mining activities.
