SRINAGAR: The Mumbai Police has filed a C summary report before the Esplanade magistrate court in Mumbai stating that the allegations against Mehak Mirza Prabhu, the 37-year-old woman who had held a free Kashmir placard, were not found to be true, reported India Today.
According to India Today, the police in the report have said the allegations against her are not found to be true. Prabhu was booked on January 7 under section 153B of the IPC.
This particular section states “Whoever, by words, either spoken or written or by signs or by visible representations or otherwise makes or publishes any imputation that any class of persons cannot, by reason of their being members of any religious, racial, language or regional group or caste or community, bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established or uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India,” is liable to be punished for imprisonment up to 5 years.
Now with the police filing a C Summary report, Mirza is likely to be exonerated as police have not found any malicious motive.
Mehak, a storytelling artist, had earlier told in several interviews that she was speaking of basic constitutional rights and freedom of expression in Jammu and Kashmir in view of the internet shut down there.
A senior Mumbai Police official confirmed that the C Summary report had been filed earlier. Now it is for the court to decide the further course of action. The court can accept the report and close the case or the court can reject it and ask the police to investigate again, reported India Today.
