Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have solved a Kulgam murder case and arrested an individual involved in the crime.

A police spokesman in a statement said, “On March 4, Qaimoh police attended a terror crime spot where the dead body of an individual was retrieved from a truck (HP Oil Tanker) parked on the roadside on Khudwani Bypass Highway. The deceased was identified as Pratap Singh resident of Jajherkotli Jammu.”

“Accordingly, a case FIR number 08/2020 under relevant sections was registered and an investigation was entrusted to an SIT led by SDPO Qazigund,” he said.

“Police with the aid of modern and scientific methods of investigation were able to gather circumstantial evidence form the scene of the crime. Police while carrying out the investigation in a professional and scientific manner was able to identify one individual involved in the crime. He was identified as Sukhdev Singh of Sair Rakhwalan, Domana Jammu. He has been arrested for his involvement in the crime and shifted to Police Station,” he added.

“While carrying out the investigations, officers learnt that he had arrived in Qazigund on 2nd of March and he along with Pratap Singh collectively decided to sell the kerosene oil loaded in the oil tanker to another person known to the accused Sukhdev Singh,” said the spokesman.

“Accordingly the oil was sold and the amount obtained from the sale was transferred to the bank account of Sukhdev. In the intervening night of  March 3rd and 4th, both of them reached Khudwani Bypass and parked their vehicle on the roadside. The accused then planned to exterminate Pratap Singh with the intention to grab the whole amount obtained from the sale of kerosene oil which was already lying in the bank account of Pratap Singh. The accused then proceeded to kill Pratap Singh and after the commission of a crime, he boarded a vehicle towards Jammu and escaped from the scene of the crime,” he said.

Further investigation in the matter is in progress, said the spokesman.
