According to The Hindu, the woman, who had previously attempted to cross over to Pakistan near the Amritsar border in March this year but was stopped by the Border Security Force (BSF), had arrived in Kargil on 9 May. She later travelled alone to Hunderban village, approximately 10 kilometres from Kargil town, leaving behind her 15-year-old son at a hotel.

Police said there is no confirmation yet on whether she may have crossed into Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The woman, a former nurse, had no known local contacts in the region. Her disappearance was reported after hotel staff alerted police when she failed to return.

Her son is currently in the custody of the Child Welfare Committee, and her family in Nagpur has been notified, officials said.

The LoC in this area falls under the operational control of the Indian Army. Police investigations are ongoing.
