SRINAGAR: Veteran actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar died on Thursday at the age of 75 after suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa, according to hospital sources.
The actor was brought to a hospital after he was found unconscious at his home. Doctors attempted to revive him for nearly 45 minutes, but he did not respond to the treatment, hospital sources said.
Nana Patekar was declared dead at 5:20 am.
The veteran actor, known for his powerful performances and distinctive screen presence, had enjoyed a career spanning several decades across Hindi and Marathi cinema. He also worked as a director and producer during his long career.
Patekar became one of the most recognisable actors in Indian cinema through a series of acclaimed performances, particularly in films that showcased his ability to portray intense and complex characters.
His acting career included films such as Parinda, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Ab Tak Chhappan and Apaharan, among others. His performances earned him several major honours, including National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards.
The actor was also widely known for his work in Marathi cinema and theatre.
News of his death comes as a shock to the film industry, with tributes expected from colleagues and admirers across the country.
