National Conference Thursday condemned the reported arrest of minors in South Kashmir’s Shopian ditsrict and said that this was a clear indication of the Mufti Government’s “growing tyranny and oppression” in the State.

NC in its statement said that the arrest of 14 year old boy in Shopian had “exposed PDP’s and Mufti Sayeed’s inherent penchant to hound and harass the youth of the State – an unfortunate and sadistic tendency he first exhibited as the Union Home Minister of India in 1989”.

“On one hand PDP General Secretary Nizamuddin Bhat has issued a statement today assuring the people over the release of detainees. On the other hand the same Government and the same PDP is sending 14 year olds to jail over their protest on the administration’s inaction to recover the body of a youth who had drowned in Shopian. This party is a party of lies, dichotomy and shamelessness. They are bereft of all shame. They have gotten so good at lying that unfortunately they have started believing their own lies now,” the NC statement said.

Reminding PDP that it was Mufti Mohamamd Sayeed and the PDP-BJP Government that imposed a fresh PSA on a separatist leader (Masarat Alam) who was released during Governor’s rule. “Not only did PDP and Mufti Sahab slap a fresh PSA on Masarat Alam but they also sent him packing to Kot Bhalwal Jail. When the Honorable Court asked the PDP-BJP Government to shift Alam back to the Valley, the Government cited security reasons and opposed his repatriation to a jail in Kashmir. What is the PDP General Secretary talking about? This is the height of shamelessness. Right when you think PDP cannot get any more shameless, they come out and say something so ironic and surprise you,” the NC statement added.

“It is also a fact that the Mufti led PDP-BJP Government has started an unprecedented crackdown on the Separatist leadership. It is a fact that those Separatist leaders who used to be put under house arrest for law and order reasons previously are now dragged to police stations and lodged there for hours. Many Separatist leaders broke their first fast in various police stations in the Valley while Mufti Sahab and his coterie of liars and drama artists kept peddling lies about an alleged ‘Battle of Ideas’. So my suggestion to Nizammuddin Bhat Sahab and the PDP would be to at least stop lying if they can’t stop their u-turns. Enough of PDP’s lies and slogans – the  party stands completely exposed.”

Meanwhile, National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah Thursday, while expressing grief and sorrow over the demise of NC leader Ghulam Nabi Mir of Pampore, said National Conference was a “repository of sacrifices” that have been “rendered to safeguard the honor of the State and its people”.

Paying glowing tributes to Late Ghulam Nabi Mir, the National Conference Working President said the party’s strength at the grassroots level was due to the selfless struggles of leaders and activists like Mir who served the party with remarkable sincerity and dedication.

The National Conference Working President visited the residence of the Late NC Leader at Pampore, who passed away on Wednesday after a brief period of illness.

Late Ghulam Nabi Mir had contested as the National Conference candidate in the Assembly Elections in 2008.

“National Conference has a proud legacy of people like Mir Sahab and our cadre and youth activists today continue to emulate the hard-work and commitment of their predecessors in their efforts to make the party stronger at the grassroots level. Mir Sahab never wavered in his commitment to our political movement that has been fought for the rights of our people. I pray for peace to the departed soul and am certain Mir Sahab’s family and his associates will carry forward his good work with equal zeal and sincerity. In Mir Sahab’s demise the party has lost a trusted leader and voice and has created a vacuum that will be hard to fill,” Abdullah said while speaking at Pampore today.

The NC statement added that Member of Legislative Council and Senior National Conference leader, Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri Thursday accused Chief Minister Mufti Mohmmad Sayeed of tricking common masses and said that failure of this government is evident in Islamabad Assembly segment.

“Leave aside the Political manifesto of PDP which they have officially thrown into dustbin, Mufti Mohmmad Syed led government hasn’t been able to compensate the flood victims who lost their everything in last year devastating floods,” Veeri said.

He said that during the visit to several areas of Anantnag Assembly segment he came to know that people are suffering from accurate shortage of essentials; roads are still in shambles state, flood victims are still waiting for help and interrupted power supply continues to hunt the people, which establishes the failure of Mufti led collation government.

“We were told that the government will ensure good governance but what is happening is totally unacceptable. People are maturating enough they will make Mufti Mohd Syed answerable for his hallow slogans and CMP,” he added.
