Srinagar

Youth wing of National Conference on Wednesday staged a protest in Srinagar to protest against the braid-cutting incidents in Kashmir Valley.

Scores of Youth National Conference activists led by President Salman Sagar marched from Nawa-e-Subh complex, housing the party headquarters towards city centre Lal Chowk.

However, a police party stopped them at Polo View and detained several protesters, including Sagar.

Before his detention, Sagar said that they took to the streets to protest against the “failure” of the government to prevent braid-cutting of women.

“We want the government to come out of deep slumber and find a solution to the issue of braid-cutting before the situations takes an ugly turn,” he said. “We don’t want to politicize the issue but the government should come forward and resolve the matter.”
