The decision was taken after an emergency meeting of the Chief Minister’s alliance partners began on Thursday evening as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah drove to Fairview Gupkar, the official residence of the Deputy CM, to chair the session.

Addressing the media after the meeting, NC MLA Tanvir Sadiq, said that the alliance strongly condemned the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, terming it “anti-minority and anti-Muslim.” He expressed concerns over its impact on Waqf properties and the larger Muslim community in J&K.

He further stated that the alliance has resolved that the people’s mandate should not be disrespected. He warned that coordination with the J&K LG and the central government should not be mistaken for weakness, adding that they are making a final appeal against unilateral decisions, particularly in the wake of recent administrative transfers ordered by LG Manoj Sinha. He emphasised that their coordination with the Centre should not be misinterpreted, urging authorities to reconsider recent decisions.

Congress legislator Nizamuddin Bhat reaffirmed the call for political respect and institutional integrity, stressing that “the sanctity of the legislature must be preserved.” He asserted, “New Delhi cannot govern the region through bureaucratic diktats while disregarding the voices of the people’s elected representatives.”
