SRINAGAR

Expressing grave concern over the Shopian incident, National Conference Friday demanded exemplary punishment to whosoever is found guilty and asked the government to provide ex-gratia to the family of the deceased.

While appreciating the decision of the state Cabinet under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to replace the CRPF personnel at gagran camp with a contingent of the J&K Armed Police calling it a ‘right step at the right time’, NC leaders said that government of Jammu and Kashmir led by Omar Abdullah is committed to ensure the welfare and security of the people of the state.

“The decision taken under the leadership of the chief minister, Omar Abdullah, addresses the concerns and grievances of the people of Gagran. This testifies to the responsiveness and quick response of the government of Jammu and Kashmir. It also demonstrates resolve on part of the government to not to allow the repetition of the sad incident like the one that happened at Gagran,” the leaders said in a statement.

While hitting at opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other parties who are ‘politicising’ the incident the leaders said that at they are known for being the architect of the 2008 agitation and are trying to put fuel in the fire.

They said the PDP leadership owe an explanation to the people of the state and the country, “as to why for their petty political ends and for their petty political gains they were playing to the public sentiments and creating situations having potential to put the public peace in jeopardy.

“We should not allow ourselves to get swayed by emotions and provocations of elements inimical to peace and maintain the brotherhood and amity at all costs”, they pledged.
