National Conference Tuesday condemned the incident of firing on unarmed civilians in Ashmuqam, Pahalgam in the strongest of terms and demanded a judicial probe to ascertain the facts so that the guilty can be punished.

On the instructions of the party leadership, NC Leader Tanvir Sadiq and NC Spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattu visited the injured victims at SKIMS Soura and Bone and Joint Hospital, Barzulla. They met the families of the victims and ascertained about their condition and treatment from the doctors.

Meanwhile, NC General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar while strongly condemning this incident of unprovoked firing on the civilians said the party demanded a judicial probe to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident and demands that the erring security forces personnel should be brought to book without any delay. He also prayed for the smooth and quick recovery of the injured victims and expressed solidarity with their families.

National Conference Leader and MLA Pahalgam, Altaf Kaloo led a strong protest against this incident of unprovoked firing in Ashmuqam and demanded a time-bound probe that would identify the erring personnel.

“This was an issue of a local Masjid and the civilians were not sitting on a political protest that merited even the remotest involvement of the security forces. The firing on the civilians has been indiscriminate and completely unprovoked leading to serious bullet injuries to at least two civilians, one of whom remains critical in SKIMS Soura. Our party has reached out to both victims and is in constant touch with the hospital authorities and doctors,” MLA Pahalgam Altaf Kaloo said.

“There should be a probe as to who directed the security forces to unleash bullets on civilians protesting about a local, apolitical issue. I express my solidarity with the families of the victims and pray for their complete and quick recovery.”
