National Conference on Saturday while strongly condemning the brutal and wanton use of force on civilians in Kakpora, Pulwama said such repressive measures had become the hallmark of the Mufti Sayeed Government.

NC Chief Spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi while expressing concern over the status of dozens of youth injured in the clashes said at least two youth had suffered bullet injuries while 11 others had been hit by pellets.

“Where is Mehbooba Mufti today? Why is she silent over this suppression under PDP’s rule? A blanket, brutal assault has been unleashed on the youth in Kakpora after the encounter there and the Chief Minister is watching not only as a mute spectator but also as an accomplice,” Ruhullah Mehdi said in a statement issued from NC Headquarters in Srinagar.

“An entire locality has been razed to the ground in an encounter with one militant. The houses have been razed to the ground deliberately as an intentional act of injustice against civilians. There are at least two youth from Kakpora who have sustained bullet injuries and eleven more have suffered grave pellet injuries. Is this the manifestation of the Modi-Mufti Accord for the common man? We strongly condemn such oppression and pray for the early recovery of the injured youth. Our heart goes out to their families.”

The NC Chief Spokesperson said an entire village cannot be targeted under the fig-leaf of an encounter and this was the precise reason why local youth were getting disillusioned and going towards the path of militancy.

“When the State Government is hell bent on harassing and hounding the youth, they should also accept the responsibility for a growing and alarming trend of local youth joining militancy. There is an atmosphere of political uncertainty and chaos in the State,” he said.
