SRINAGAR

The ruling National Conference Wednesday called an emergency meeting of its core group to “react strongly” against the statement of MoS in the PMs office Dr. Jatindra Singh, sources in the party said.

“The meeting is going on here,” they said.

Pertinently, Singh has said that the Union Government is in the process of repealing Article 370 which guarantees special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The spokesman of the party said that the statement of Singh is apparently a policy statement of the BJP government as he is a Minister in the Prime Minister’s office and as such needs to be taken seriously.

He said the ramifications of repealing of the Article 370 are known to all and such an act will lead to reopening the entire gambit of the question of the relationship between Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of India and put a question mark on the entire process of accession.

The spokesman warned that any such move will lead to anarchy in the state and is wrought with divisive, communal overtones which could lead to unrest in the entire state.

The National Conference spokesman also appealed to all the political parties of the state who claim to represent the aspirations of the people to rise above petty political interests and come together in the struggle of the National Conference to ensure that the state’s special status and  character is not diluted.
