SRINAGAR: BJP senior leader Ravinder Raina on Tuesday said Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi’s resignation as Srinagar MP was an internal matter of the National Conference (NC), but maintained that the developments within the ruling party had emerged as a serious challenge for its leadership.
Speaking to reporters, Raina said the issue had no connection with the BJP but described Ruhullah as a prominent and outspoken political leader with considerable political experience.
He noted that Ruhullah had been elected as an MLA three times, served as a minister and was currently a Member of Parliament.
Raina said the National Conference was facing serious internal difficulties, posing a challenge to party president Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Referring to the reported meetings of 25 NC legislators separately from the party leadership, he said allegations of corruption and misconduct against certain ministers had also emerged from within the legislators’ camp.
He said these developments were creating further difficulties for the ruling party and had become a serious political challenge for its leadership.
