Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said that PDP’s main thrust is to put Jammu & Kashmir on the course of un-interruptible path of political progress and economic development.
Addressing a party workers convention at Baramulla today, she said: “The vision evolved by the PDP was already under implementation till 2008 and it will pickup threads again from there with people’s support.”
Mehbooba said Jammu & Kashmir had started of a journey of hope and reconstruction which was stopped after change of guard in the government and now the situation seems to be heading for square one.
“The string of killing by unidentified gunmen, a policeman, Panchayat members and ordinary citizens is a matter of grave concern,” she said, “but this cannot be stopped by mere statements of outrage and condemnation.”
She said insecurity of lives has returned to haunt the society and NC led government has proved that while it remains in office no improvement can be expected to turn around the situation.
Expressing confidence that people having experienced the PDP led government and successive NC regimes, the next elections would throw up a government that is not only accountable to the people of Jammu & Kashmir but actually channelizes their aspirations and safeguards their rights.
“NC has historically cheated the people by seeking votes on the promises of political empowerment but in practice conceding all political authority and economic assets like the power projects and J&K Bank to centre,” she said.
She recalled that her party had promised to convert Kashmir into a bridge between India & Pakistan and not let it remain a permanent bone of contention between the two that has resulted in miseries for many generations.
“The policies of the government led by Mufti Mohammed Sayeed brought relief not only on the internal front but impacted positively the relations between India and Pakistan,” she said. “Kashmir for a while looked like the epicenter of peace and it seems that the state was scripting the agenda of peace between the two countries which had remained hostile ever since independence.”
She said even though PDP was in alliance with congress but it could take on board the BJP led NDA also and for the first time a consensus at the national level had evolved to resolve Kashmir issue peacefully.
She said NC government marked its beginning with the tragic and dastardly death of Asiya and Neelofar in Shopian and continued with the killing of 120 innocents including children in 2010, hundreds of infant deaths at GB Pant Hospital in 2012, secret hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru in 2013, destruction of Dastgeer sahib shrine and killing of Panchayat representatives have become the tragic milestones of this government, which has proved a deadly monster for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Refering to the death of Sonaullah who was attacked in Kot Balwal jail Mehbooba said: “Omar Abdullah government is supplying scapegoats to its political masters whenever they need them to neutralize passion in the country.”
“In order to establish its credentials about the so called war on terror, Omar Abdullah volunteered his services for hanging Afzal Guru even though he was 28th on the death row.”
Speaking on the occasion senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig said, that the present government stopped action on all plans and schemes started by the Mufti Mohammed Sayeed led government. “Mega plans had been finalized for development of cities like Baramulla and Anantnag into modern cities where all amenities and civic services would be available,” he said.
He said Baramullah under the plan would have emerged as a respectable gate way of Kashmir on the Muzaffar abad road.
“Jammu & Kashmir can attract millions of tourists from Pakistan, central Asia, Iran and Turkey when ever roads like Uri-Muzaffarabad road, Kargil-Skardu, Sialkote, Poonch -Rawalakote reopen to their full potential,” Baig said.
