After Bhartiya Janata Party it is now National Conference which has pitched for ban on the screening of Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed movie Padmavati in Jammu and Kashmir.

Kashmir has no cinema houses, however, National Conference face of Jammu regions Davinder Singh Rana wants a blanket ban of the screening of Padmavati in Jammu, saying the screening may disturb peace and harmony in the region.

Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone starrer “Padmavati’ has already marred with controversy as right wing organization allege that the character of Padmavati has been assassinated in the movie, a charge vehemently refuted by the film director.

In a communiqué to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, National Conference legislator from Nagrota has urged Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to ban the release the movie ‘Padmavati’ in the state.

“Through this communiqué of mine, I seek your kind indulgence on the subject matter of feature film Padmavati,” Rana’s communiqué to Mehbooba said.

Citing media reports, Rana said the contents of the feature film “Padmavati” are “likely to hurt the sentiments of a particular community/religion and so has the potential to disrupt the peace and order in Jammu province.”

“Many deputations from across the Jammu province has approached me in this regard in the couple of days,” he said in his letter. (CNS)
