SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) on Sunday held a meeting of its legislators in Srinagar ahead of the upcoming session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
The meeting, chaired by NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah at the Banquet Hall, was attended by Chief Minister and Leader of the House Omar Abdullah, party general secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar, Chief Whip Haji Mubarak Gul and NC legislators.
Congress legislators who are part of the coalition government, along with Independent MLAs supporting the government, also attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed the Assembly session, which is scheduled to begin on Monday, and deliberated on a strategy to raise public issues, demands and other matters of importance in the House.
Addressing the legislators, Farooq Abdullah urged them to give priority to the concerns of people and effectively highlight the issues and difficulties faced by their respective constituencies during the session.
He said the Legislative Assembly provides a forum for raising public concerns, seeking answers from the government and holding discussions on matters of public interest.
Abdullah emphasised that the primary responsibility of legislators was to articulate the concerns of the people in the House and seek solutions to their problems.
The meeting also stressed that issues of public importance would be given priority during the upcoming session and that people’s concerns would be raised effectively on the floor of the House.
