SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference’s South Kashmir MP, Hasnain Masoodi has taken up the case of Kunan driver Abdul Rashid Dar with Defence minister, Rajnath Singh, a party statement issued to the media said.

Kunan (Kupwara) family protests in Srinagar on December 21, 2022, seeking whereabouts of their son, Abdul Rashid Dar

Dar was allegedly arrested by the army at his residence on December 15. Later, police said they were told Dar escaped from their custody.

“Masoodi asked the Union Defence Minister to intervene in the case and help the family trace their son Abdul Rashid Dar amidst serious apprehensions about his safety,” the statement said. “The army’s version of the disappearance is unconvincing and inconsistent with that of the family, who do not believe that  Rashid could have escaped from the camp, where hundreds of forces are deployed. A sinking feeling of panic has gripped the family and the entire area.”

The family had earlier driven to Srinagar and register a protest and requested Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene.

Police said they have registered a case and taken up the investigations.
