More than 30 pilgrims died in a tragic landslide during the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi yatra. Offering condolences, Dr Abdullah said his thoughts were with the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

Extending sympathy to those who have lost loved ones, homes, property and livestock, he commended the Jammu and Kashmir government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, for its “swift and compassionate” response. He said the administration’s timely rescue efforts had “saved countless lives and brought much-needed relief to those stranded”.

Abdullah urged the Central Government to immediately release financial and logistical aid to strengthen relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction measures. “This is a time for unity and collective action. The people of Jammu need the full support of both the local administration and the Centre,” he stressed.

He also appealed to NGOs, civil society groups and citizens to come forward in solidarity with the victims and contribute to the ongoing relief operations.
