Veteran National Conference (NC) leader, and uncle of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah, Sheikh Nazir passed away Tuesday morning in winter capital Jammu. He was 84.
As per his last wish, Sheikh Nazir, would be buried in the family’s ancestral graveyard in Soura area of Srinagar this afternoon.
Sheikh Nazir was admitted to government medical college hospital Jammu on Sunday. He was put on life support system following deterioration of his health condition.
Omar Abdullah had visited the hospital Monday evening to enquire about his uncle’s health.
Sheikh Nazir ruled NC as its general secretary for nearly three decades.
A confirmed bachelor and a highly respected gentleman, Nazir was very close to NC patron and his cousin Farooq Abdullah.
After he was declared dead in the hopistal, Sheikh’s body was driven to Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan where a number of leaders reached to pay their respects. Later, the body was sent to Srinagar by road and is on way.
