Speaking with reporters on the sidelines of an awareness programme, the SSP said that the aim of the programme was to raise public awareness about the transition of criminal laws from a colonial legacy to a democratic one.

He explained that India’s Indian Penal Code (IPC) has now been replaced by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). “The shift from ‘penal’ to ‘Nyaya’ represents a transition from punishment to justice, making the system more citizen-centric,” he stated.

The SSP added that awareness programmes will be conducted every 15 days to educate the public on these new legal provisions. (KNO)
