SRINAGAR: The Geographical Registry, Chennai, has assigned a new logo to the Kashmir Hand-Knotted Carpet under its Geographical Indication (GI) procedures in a significant move to safeguard its authenticity and promote the brand.
The GI logo, a mark of quality and geographical origin, ensures that the product maintains its unique identity. The Director of the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology (IICT), Nowshera, Srinagar, Zubair Ahmad, confirmed that a fresh registration certificate with the new logo has been issued by the Registrar of Geographical Indications.
“The new logo will be widely publicised to secure the exclusivity of the hand-knotted Kashmir carpet and assure buyers of purchasing an authentic handmade product,” Ahmad stated.
Kashmir crafts, renowned for their premium quality in international markets, are working towards securing GI registration for all categories. Currently, six other crafts—Papier Mache, Kashmir Pashmina, Kani, Sozni, Khatamband, and Walnut Wood Carving—have already obtained GI registration.
