SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has said the issue of re-aligning NH-701A through the existing Main Market Road in Beerwah instead of the proposed bypass falls within the domain of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), after receiving representations supporting both alignments.
The government made the disclosure in response to a starred question, D No. 1/6/159, tabled by Beerwah MLA Shafi Ahmad Wani regarding the demand from residents, traders and other stakeholders to route the highway through the existing Main Market Road.
According to the Public Works (R&B) Department, representations have been received from residents, traders and other stakeholders of Beerwah favouring alignment through the existing Main Market Road. At the same time, representations have also been received in support of the proposed bypass.
The department said the road had been transferred to the BRO and, consequently, the matter relating to its alignment falls within the organisation’s domain.
The government also confirmed that the matter has been taken up with the BRO and other concerned authorities. The reply, however, did not provide details of the response received from those authorities.
