The proposed corridor — Katra–Reasi–Mahore–Gulabgarh–Nandimarg–Kulgam — aims to strengthen road connectivity between the Jammu region and south Kashmir, passing through several hilly and remote areas.

According to the tender notice issued by NHAI’s Regional Office in Jammu (reference number JKDIV/14/2025-NHAI-RO Jammu/E 290669), the consultancy services will involve comprehensive DPR preparation, including feasibility studies, traffic surveys, alignment planning, and engineering designs for the four-laning of the strategic road.

Officials said the project is expected to improve inter-regional connectivity, reduce travel time, and boost tourism, trade, and economic growth in the mountainous districts along the proposed alignment.

The highway is also likely to provide all-weather connectivity to remote areas such as Mahore, Gulabgarh, and Nandimarg, which often face road accessibility issues due to difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions.

The last date for submission of bids through the open tender process is June 22, 2026, the notice added. (KNS)
