The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested seven pro-freedom activists, leaders in connection with “terror funding case”, reports quoting sources said.

The activists who were arrested include National Front chairperson Nayeem Ahmad Khan, JKLF activist Bitta Karate, Hurriyat (m) chairperson Shahid-ul- Islam, Hurriyat (g) activist and son in law of Syed Ali Geelani, Altaf Ahmad Shah (Fantoosh), District president of Hurriyat (g) Mehraj-ud-din Kalwal, Geelani’s personal secretary Peer Saifullah and spokesperson Ayaz Akbar.

Reports said that the leaders were summoned by NIA to Humhama where they were formally arrested. However officials did not confirm their arrest. Sources said that some leaders may be allowed to go while as some are being arrested. “The arrested may be shifted to New Delhi,” they said.

The arrest of the said leaders came after the NIA conducted several rounds of interrogation following a “sting operation” of a Delhi based TV news channel.
