SRINAGAR: Federal investigator, National Investigations Agency (NIA) has arrested a Bandipore resident for being a recruiter for banned Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit, reports appearing in the media said. He is a school teacher.

Officials said Rather was arrested in a case of a West Bengal resident named Tania Parveen, who had an association with Lashkar.

The investigator has found that Tania Parveen had come in contact with Rather on social media platforms. “He was instrumental in introducing Tania Parveen to LeT members based in Pakistan to radicalise, motivate and recruit youth for violent acts in India,” a news report quoting an NIA official said.

NIA arrested the teacher from his Bandipore residence on Thursday. Parveen was arrested by the West Bengal Police last year after Badurai police station in North 24 Parganas district registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Information Technology Act. However, the case was taken over by NIA that re-registered the case on April 5, 2020, and has already filed a charge-sheet against her.
