SRINAGAR: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted searches at 10 locations across Jammu and Kashmir as part of its investigation into a cross-border terror conspiracy involving Pakistan-based handlers of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its network of Over Ground Workers (OGWs).
According to an NIA handout, the searches were carried out in Kupwara, Kulgam, Bandipora, Baramulla and Sopore to gather further evidence and establish the role of individuals allegedly providing logistical and other support to infiltrated terrorists.
The case originated from FIR No. 0024/2026 registered at Police Station Zakoora, Srinagar. It was subsequently re-registered by the NIA as RC-02/2026/NIA/JMU under Section 23 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Sections 7 and 25 of the Arms Act and Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act.
The investigation followed the arrest of an alleged LeT-linked OGW at a naka point during the late-night hours of March 31, 2026. The NIA said a hand grenade and live ammunition were recovered from his possession.
According to the agency, subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of Pakistani nationals allegedly linked to the conspiracy and helped establish the identities and roles of members of a local support network.
The NIA said its investigation has so far indicated links between Pakistan-based LeT handlers and their local associates, who were allegedly being used to facilitate communication, movement and concealment of infiltrated terrorists. The agency said the network was also allegedly involved in providing shelter, reconnaissance and other logistical support.
The agency is examining the financial trail, communication channels, movements of the accused and the source and supply chain of arms and explosives to establish the wider network and determine the extent of its activities, according to the handout.
During Saturday’s searches, the NIA said, incriminating material relevant to the case was seized. The material is being examined and corroborated with other evidence as part of the investigation.
The agency said the investigation remains underway to identify all those allegedly involved in the conspiracy and establish their respective roles. It added that further legal action, including arrests and recoveries, may follow depending on the outcome of the investigation.
