A day after State Police Chief Dr SP Vaid said that they won’t stop the resistance leaders from going anywhere, the police late Friday arrested Yasin Malik from his Maisuma residence and lodged him at Kothi Bagh police station, while Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Ali Geelani have been placed under house arrest at their respective residences.

Although state police had said that they have no objection to where the separatists are going, however, the latest move has surprised many.

On Friday the joint resistance leaders had said that they will assemble at the residence of octogenarian Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani at Hyderpora and then proceed to New Delhi.

However, Kashmir police chief Munir Ahmad Khan told Kashmir Life that they won’t allow them to hold a rally.

“We had information that they (separatists) will hold a rally, that is why we had to detain them,” Khan said. 

The Kashmir police chief said that we wont allow them to hold a rally. “Why should we allow them to hold a rally? We wont let them disturb law and order,” he said.

Khan said that the separatists can go to anywhere they want but individually. “They want to disturb law and order and create violence, which won’t be allowed at any cost,” he said.
