Nine Arrested in Kashmir for Drug Peddling; Cases Registered: Police

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested nine drug peddlers across various districts and seized contraband substances during routine checks, on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson in a statement said that in Srinagar, two individuals, Khalid Ahmad of Soura and Basit Ahmad Dar of Eidgah, were arrested near Ganj Baksh Park with illegal substances.

In Baramulla, Mubashir Mohiuddin Dar of Azadgunj was caught with 200 grams of charas at a checkpoint in Azadgunj Chowk.

“In Bandipora, police apprehended Irshad Ahmad Wani of Hajin with 47 bottles of codeine phosphate at Papachan Bridge. At Shokbaba Sumlar, Ab Rashid Sheikh of Arin was arrested with 40 grams of charas. Additionally, Mohmad Aqib Wani of Hajin was intercepted in a Maruti Alto at Check Chandergeer and found with 98 bottles of codeine phosphate. His vehicle was seized,” the statement reads.

In Sopore, Aamir Farooq Dar of Ningli Sopore and Javaid Ahmad Gujri of Jamai Qadeem Sopore were caught at Trumgund Crossing with 20 grams of brown sugar.

In Kupwara, Mohd Anwar Raina of Karnah was stopped at Batergam near a petrol pump while riding a motorcycle. He was found with 14 grams of brown sugar and arrested after attempting to flee.

Police have registered cases under relevant laws at the respective police stations and launched investigations. Authorities continue to urge the public to support efforts to combat drug abuse and safeguard society.
