SRINAGAR: A court in north Kashmir has convicted nine persons in a murder case. All the residents belong to Kathpora village in Hajin village of Banadipora.

In late November 2014, a sarpanch identified as Abdul Rashid Wagay, son of Abdul Gani Wagay, was injured in a scuffle with a gas dealer. The injured, who was admitted to SKIMS, Soura, succumbed to his injuries on November 27. Initially, the police arrested four persons including Shakeel Ahmad Khan, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, Showkat Ahmad Parray and Firdous Ahmad Parray. The police eventually submitted a charge sheet against nine persons.

According to a brief statement issued by DDP Bandipore, M A Zargar, Principal District and Sessions Judge Bandipora convicted all the accused persons held in FIR 105/2014 U/S 302, 147, 149, 506, 427, 341, 34 RPC of police station Hajin. “The charge was framed U/S 302 RPC. However, on the basis of evidence during trial section 304-ii RPC was established against accused Ghulam Ahmad Parray,” Zargar said. “Rest of the accused persons have been convicted U/S 147,341 RPC.” Arguments on the quantum of punishment stand fixed for November 5.

Authorities had imposed curfew restrictions to maintain law and order after Wagay’s death. Locally he was known as Rashid Kabuli, who had joined the NC. Kabuli had quit Ikhwan in 2002 and joined NC.
