SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested nine drug peddlers across Kashmir valley and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.

A police spokesman in a statement said that in Baramulla, a police party of PS Kunzer during patrolling at Lalpora Kunzer, arrested two drug peddlers identified as Shahid Ahmad Wani son of Abdul Gani and Sameer Ahmad Rather son of Ghulam Mohammad Rather, both residents of Lalpora Kunzer. During search, 108 grams of charas was recovered from their possession.

“In another action, a police party of PS Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Dewanbagh Baramulla, arrested two drug peddlers identified as Shaib Showkat Mir son of Showkat Ahmad resident of Gousia Colony Azadgunj and Saqib Ibrahim Pir son of Mohd Ibrahim resident of Ladoora Rafiabad. During search, 215 grams of charas was recovered from their possession,” said the spokesman.

In Anantnag, a police party of PS Anantnag at a checkpoint established at Sarnal Bala Anantnag intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK18A-4445 with three persons on board, he said.

“They have been identified as Bilal Ahmed Dar son of Ghulam Qadir Dar resident of Chichdipora, Sajad Ahmed Khan son of Ghulam Nabi Khan resident of Rambirpora Mattan and Mehraj-ud-din Lone son of Ghulam Rasool Lone resident of Ashajipora. During checking, 29 Codeine Phosphate bottles were recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” he added.

“Similarly, in Kulgam a police party at a checkpoint established at Lowermunda Qazigund arrested a notorious drug peddler identified as Ubaid Ahmad Sofi son of Mohd Maqbool Sofi resident of Sangam Bijbehara,” said the spokesman.

“During checking, officers were able to recover 02 Kgs of charas from his possession.  Meanwhile at another checkpoint established at Damidulla Crossing, a police party of PP Frisal, arrested a drug peddler identified as Mohd Yaqoob Malik resident of Arwani Bijbehara. During search, 3.87 grams of Heroin was recovered from his possession,” he said.

All the accused persons have been shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered and investigations have been initiated, he added.
